Juxtaposing the secular and the sacred, the accepted and the forbidden, Zalmy and Shmuel are forced to reexamine the core of their faith and their relationship. Rich in humor, Trayf is a moving new play that explores identity, assimilation, and friendship.
#WORLDPRIDE2019! Criminal Queerness Festival!
Celine is thrilled to be directing Adam Elsayigh's Drowning in Cairo in the National Queer Theater's Criminal Queerness Festival! On the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, National Queer Theater puts international queer stories on the world stage. Showcasing the top LGBTQ plays from Egypt, Tanzania, Pakistan, and China, the Festival explores global homophobia and pride for WorldPride 2019.
Lifespan of a Fact at Asolo Rep in 2020!
Celine will direct The Lifespan of a Fact by Jeremy Kareken, David Murrell, and Gordon Farrell at Asolo Rep next season! Based on the essay/book by John D’Agata and Jim Fingal, this smart, Rib-Bustingly funny play questions the negotiability of fact when a famous author and a meticulous fact-checker clash over an essay.
Celine Directs Drowning in Cairo at National Queer Theatre
May 2001 in Cairo. Moody, Khalid, and their servant Taha are on the Queen Boat, a gay nightclub docked on the Nile. When an unexpected police raid results in the arrest and public humiliation of the attendees, the lives of these young men are altered forever. This beautiful new play by Adam Ashraf Elsayigh weaves budding romances, class differences, and familial expectations into a loving portrait of three men who all struggle to rebuild their lives against all odds.
Asolo on Tour! THE TEMPEST!
Asolo Rep proudly presents a touring production of William Shakespeare's magical masterpiece THE TEMPEST. This inventive, new 45- minute adaptation will be directed by Asolo Rep Associate Artistic Director Celine Rosenthal and adapted by Tyler Dobrowsky. The production will travel to schools and community venues throughout the state of Florida from September 25 through November 19.
Asolo Rep Announces New Associate Artistic Director Celine Rosenthal!
As Associate Artistic Director, Rosenthal will collaborate in season planning and new play development efforts, direct plays at Asolo Rep, serve as the theatre's in-house casting director, oversee Asolo Rep's Directing Fellow program, and help curate content for and facilitate outreach programs including IllumiNation and OUT@AsoloRep.
Celine Directs Chicago at Children's Theatre Company

Celine named Artistic Associate at Asolo Rep!
This season Celine will be serving as Artistic Associate at The Asolo!
In addition to working closely with Artistic Director Michael Donald Edwards, Celine will be handling casting for The Rep, and working with Ria Cooper on Asolo's Illumination Series and Faces of Change program.
That's a Wrap on WILDFLOWER!
Celine was thrilled to have directed the short film WILDFLOWER, an Estonian/American Co-pro. Collaborating with DP Charlotte Dupre, Producer Natalie Schwan (of Velicity Creatives), writer Suzan Cameron, and our amazing cast, led by Kristi Roosma was an absolute dream. Hopefully we'll be hitting the festival circuit sometime in early 2018!
Shivali Bhammer's witty, touching play, awarded Best Production for our SOLD OUT run at the Tamasha Festival this past fall, will be enjoying a production in London at the Tristan Bates Theatre as part of the Camden Fringe Festival!
Also Starring Shez Sardar (Marvel/Netflix's The Punisher) performances begin August 7th!
Heart Beats! Asolo Rep's Kaleidescope
Celine's thrilled to have gotten a chance to work with the incomparable Ann Morrison on Asolo Rep’s acclaimed Kaleidoscope program! Kaleidoscope works with individuals with disabilities from community organizations and schools in the area to discover creative and personal expression through theatre. Thrilled to be working with Ria Cooper & Kathryn Moroney on Asolo Rep’s fifth annual community-based documentary theater project. Racially-motivated violence is more visible today than ever. How do we respond, and how can we take action where we live?
